Dear New Yorker:

We write with enthusiasm to announce the launch of a new NEW YORKERS FOR DANCE campaign spotlighting the role of dance and culture in advancing local vibrancy. Our goals are to increase investment and engagement citywide.

The campaign was unveiled yesterday with 51 individual video statements on why dance matters locally, featuring New Yorkers from neighborhoods in each of the 51 City Council districts who responded to an open call. Over the coming days, we will release new statements from each of our boroughs.

The effort coincides with hearings on New York City’s FY 2015 budget, and it demonstrates vast grassroots support for robust allocations to cultural affairs and arts education. New Yorkers, including those in this montage, testify to the value of the arts and culture and make the case for our city’s future as a dance capital:

Click here for personal statements from New Yorkers in all 51 City Council districts.

As we look forward to the enactment of the FY 2015 budget, Dance/NYC invites you to join us in showing your elected officials the value and contributions of the art form to their constituents by sharing the campaign and encouraging others in your networks to join you. Please click here to find your local Council member.

Please also subscribe to YouTube.com/DanceNYCorg and visit the all-new DanceNYC.org to experience the campaign, and join your fellow New Yorkers in telling us why dance matters to you #newyorkersfordance @DanceNYC.

We know you know why dance matters and hope you will join us.

Onward for dance,

Lane and the team at Dance/NYC

Lane Harwell
