Jon Martin grew up with deep roots in the Civil Rights movement and New York’s bohemian counterculture. Working at Twilo, he established lifelong friendships with notable nightlife figures including Godfather of House Frankie Knuckles, who introduced him to a cadre of legendary nightlife figures including Nicky Siano, Tedd Patterson and Eric Kupper, and taught him the basics of mixing, controlling a system and working a dancefloor. Knuckles was also a tremendous musical influence, schooling Jon inside the DJ booth of his Sound Factory Bar residency, as well as in the recording studio.
As Digital Content Director at King Street Sounds, Jon produced a number of underground house events in NYC, and contributed to the success of artists and projects including Ananda Project, Dennis Ferrer, Steal Vybe and Underground Artists United for Life. In the early 2000’s Jon worked closely with the legendary Dave Mancuso to produce quarterly Loft events in New York City.
Jon created the sub:culture brand to funnel all of these disparate energies into one direction, and has made numerous appearances on terrestrial, internet and satellite radio both in the United States and internationally. Today, he continues on his mission to deliver “the medicine in the music” with his sub:culture events, as a co-owner of KID Recordings, with his weekly mixshow sub:culture selections on InDaMixWorldwide, and as a staff contributor to Starvue Loft in Bushwick.

Dub-inspired music from Deep Space Media:
Deep Space, is an adventure into future dub, spacey vibes, and abstract grooves featuring resident DJ François K. live on the mixing board with special guests.
Since the party’s launch in 2003, Deep Space has featured a who’s who of well known and then emerging artists from around the world representing a stunning array of musical styles that Deep Space is known for integrating into its open minded aesthetic. While the mission of Deep Space remains committed to sharing a love of dub, a vast, under-appreciated musical direction, the party has invited a great range of guest artists to share their creative dub mixing approaches to all things spacey, psychedelic and mind-bending.
From dubstep pioneers such as Mala, Kode9 and Digital Mystikz, to house, techno & disco icons such as Giorgio Moroder, DJ Harvey, Dimitri from Paris, Theo Parrish, Rhythm & Sound, Ron Trent, Carl Craig, Scuba, Joe Claussell, Derrick May, to cutting edge producers and tastemakers such as Gilles Peterson, Jamie xx, Mary Anne Hobbs, Mr. Scruff, DJ Spooky and dub legends such as Adrian Sherwood with Pinch, Mad Professor, Mutabaruka and U-Roy, and Brazilian icons Otto with Carlinhos Brown and plenty of live musical and dance performers, Deep Space continues to be a magnet for attracting many of electronic dance music’s most innovative artists. Almost all of the guest artists who play at Deep Space create truly one-of-kind, crate-digging "Deep Space sets."

Our move to Output
While we have absolutely cherished our time at Cielo, and love the club’s incredible team and stellar sound system, we also feel there is a tremendous creative community in Brooklyn who embrace Deep Space’s sense of adventure. Output’s phenomenal Funkion One Sound System will give our maestro, Dj Francois K., the opportunity to take us on bigger music journeys; the type that have continually won him “best resident dj” awards during Deep Space’s 14 year history. We are so grateful to the entire club community for everyone’s loyalty, positive vibes, and good hearted support over the years. You have all been the most remarkable dancers, artists and team players, and we hope you will ever consider yourselves who you truly are: our family.
